    • Germany had said it would provide military support to Ukraine amid the war with Russia.

    • But it has sent only two deliveries of light weapons since March, Welt am Sonntag reported .

Russian President Vladimir Putin last week warned Germany not to provide further military support to Ukraine.

But Germany has sent only two deliveries of weapons to Ukraine since March, documents obtained by the German publication Welt am Sonntag show . Welt and Insider share a parent company, Axel Springer.

The German government has reduced its military support over the past few weeks, making two arms deliveries to Ukraine between March 30 and May 26, the documents show.

Both shipments included small arms such as anti-tank mines. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has refused to supply German battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, the German tabloid Bild reported in April . (Bild is also an Axel Springer publication.)

Ukraine asked Germany for Harpoon anti-ship missiles, but Germany did not grant the request, according to the documents obtained by Welt am Sonntag.

"The information on specific arms deliveries is security-related and classified, so I ask for your understanding not to be able to provide more detailed information or confirm details," a spokesperson for Germany's defense ministry told the newspaper.

The ministry did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

In a call on Saturday, Putin warned Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron against sending arms to Ukraine, saying it would risk "further destabilization of the situation."

In response, Scholz and Macron asked the Russian leader to hold "serious" talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Scholz has faced harsh criticism over his response to the conflict in Ukraine. Though he has voiced support for the country, he has also held back on approving the transfer of heavy weapons.

As Ukraine nears the 100-day mark since the start of the Russian invasion, it has continued asking Western allies for support to defend itself in the eastern Donbas region, which is under heavy attack.
