Hey fellas,

I was just sitting around listening to one of the Dos Gringos tracks I've got on my computer, and got to thinking after the part of the chorus where they say "I don't give a f**k if I bring your jet back code 2 or code 3"

Now, I'm just a backshopper so I've only heard these terms thrown around a few times during my relatively short career in the AF (mostly during my last deployment and during ORE's/ORI's), and I never knew exactly what they meant. All I've been able to put together so far is that Code 1=good, Code 3=bad, and Code 2 is somewhere in between. I've asked my supervisor before and he didn't really give me a clear answer to this.

I'm assuming that Code 1 means FMC, Code 3 is unflyable/not safe to fly, but I guess I'm really just wondering when and why an aircraft is considered Code 2 and not 1 or 3.

Without going into the specifics, could any of you guys help me on this? I'm well aware that mission readiness is a very sensitive area, I'm not looking for details of any sort, just a general explanation. So if any of the info I'm requesting is too sensitive to discuss, just tell me and we'll leave it at that, no questions asked.

    Thanks.
