The White Castle hamburger company, the country’s oldest, opened a new branch in Orlando (Central Florida) on Monday to commemorate its centennial, with hundreds of customers queuing to try its famed little buns and a variety of other items.

The new location of this fast-food restaurant business, which was founded in 1921, will be in the O-Town West complex in southwest Orlando, and it will be the company’s first in Florida since it closed its previous location in Miami in 1968.

The 4,567-square-foot (425-square-meter) White Castle restaurant in Orlando, known for its small, square-shaped rolls, retains its distinctive tower, but in a more modern form.

The restaurant has set up two self-service drive-thru lanes in preparation for its return to Florida, and management has stated that the present customer service hours of 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. may be extended to 24 hours soon.

White Castle established a maximum order limit of 60 burgers per customer on opening day, while consumers began to line up on Sunday, according to local channel Fox35, to savor its famed beef, chicken, bacon, cheeseburgers and other items.

Lisa Ingram, the fourth-generation owner, as well as family members, company executives, and local officials, were present for the opening.

“Our Orlando Castle has been under development for almost a century. We are humbled by the great reception we have received (…) Our objective is to create memorable moments every day,” Ingram said, referring to his customers, who he lovingly refers to as “ Cravers .”

Walter A. Anderson, a cook, and E. W. Ingram, an insurance broker, launched the first White Castle hamburger business in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921. In the United States, this pioneering fast-food company now has over 360 outlets.

The brand is particularly proud of the fact that its “ Original Slider ” burger was awarded the “most influential burger of all time” by Time magazine in 2014.

The assembly line approach was invented by this franchise with the goal of rapid expansion in mind. Each new restaurant, or “castle,” had the same layout, with a grill, a counter, and five chairs, and was staffed by two people.
